Despite a powerful opposition movement and a recent victory in ongoing litigation, the Tonawanda Seneca Nation and local residents of WNY are STILL fighting to stop the construction of a data center at the STAMP mega industrial site in Alabama, NY. Since we invited you to sign our first sign-on letter in January 2025, a lot has happened in this fight. In brief:
Today, the Allies of the Tonawanda Seneca Nation and WNY Environmental Alliance are inviting your organization to join our letter telling Stream Data Centers and corporate parent Apollo Global Management: NO DATA CENTERS at STAMP. Since we invited you to sign our first sign-on letter in January 2025, a lot has happened in this fight. In brief:
- In early 2025, individuals submitted nearly 800 comments opposing the siting of a data center at STAMP, and nearly 70 organizations signed on to letters sent to the prospective data center developers.
- In March, GCEDC approved Project Double Reed, a massive data center proposed by Stream US Data Centers. However, the developer did not purchase the land and the project did not move forward.
- On July 1, the Tonawanda Seneca Nation and the Sierra Club filed suit in NYS Supreme Court to challenge approvals for the project.
- In September, the GCEDC Board voted to RESCIND those approvals - a major victory for the petitioners. However, at the same time, GCEDC indicated that Stream Data Centers had indicated their intent to submit a plan for an EVEN LARGER data center at STAMP.
